The Week of the Turkeys

You'll understand the title of this post once you've read what Baylee has to say:

"Dear friends and family,

The past week has been crazy! We've had a ton going on with the mission offically splitting and things have been a little wild.

We met our new mission president and his wife on Wednesday at a zone conference. President and Sister Natress, apparently he was an area 70 before he got called to be the mission president here. They are both super nice and super young, they're only 48! But they're super nice and excited to be here. It was nice to get to talk to them for awhile and get to know them.

Then the 4th was on Thursday. We went in an hour early at 8 because it was dark and there were so many people doing fireworks. We got to watch some fireworks from our house, so that was fun. It was way better than the firework shows we have back home, no offense. Haha.

Sister Kratzer and I also had a fun adventure with turkeys the other day. We live on a member's property and they own some animals-chickens, turkeys, a duck, and goats. The members were out of town for the past 2 weeks and we were keeping an eye on them. Well, the other day one of the turkeeys escaped and we had to get it back in its cage. It was interesting because neither of us wanted to touch it. We used a box and it actually ended up getting back in itself. Then we built a little barricade to keep it from escaping again. Unfortunately another one got out on the 5th. And that time we had to use the box to catch it and get it back in it's cage. And then it happened again the next day. It was so annoying! But we managed to get it back in after like 20 minutes each time. But now I hate turkeys even more than I used to.

Monsoon season has also started. We haven't had very much rain yet, but it's starting to get more humid. However, people here think 30% humidity is killer, and to me that's like nothing. But the storms are cool. There's a ton of lightning and it's really intense. And I guess the thunder can be really loud too, but I haven't heard too much of that yet. And then it just pours. I'm really not excited to get caught out in that, it'll be interesting, but maybe people will let us in to escape from the rain and then we can teach them. Haha.

It's also so freaking HOT here! It's never below 110! Plus the sun is ridiculous. I'm starting to get some super awesome tan lines. My watch tan line will be super awesome. Plus from my shoes and shirts. Plus I got burnt the other day. Luckily it wasn't too bad though so it went away overnight. However, I'd rather deal with the sun than the rain any day.

And then last night we got transfer calls. We're getting 13 new sisters and 7 new elders tomorrow. Luckily, I am not training or leaving my area and neither is Sister Kratzer. We get to stay put for at least 6 more weeks. But we still get to go to transfer meeting tomorrow since it's the first one with the new president. I'm excited to see my MTC district again.

And that's pretty much the most exciting things that have happened this week. We've still been working hard to get to know our area and find people to teach. I have a feeling that this week we'll find some great new investigators.

I love being here in the Gilbert mission. It's so cool to see how much the church has grown and is still growing in this area. And with the temple open house coming up soon, there will be even more interest generated. I love being a missionary. I love getting to share my testimony everyday that God lives and loves us. That He wants us all to be happy, and that through the restored gospel of Jesus Christ we can find that happiness. I know the Book of Mormon is true and that as we read it each day, we can feel God's love for us and find direction in our life. And I am so grateful for our living prophet, Thomas S. Monson, who leads the church today.

I love and miss you all so much and hope all is well. I would still love to hear from you all-mail is one of the most exciting things ever here. Haha. Until next week!

Love always,

Baylee"

I'm still trying to picture Baylee running around after a turkey...too bad someone couldn't have caught that on film. :)

This is the barricade they made for the turkey...
