Out in the Field

Baylee wrote back on Monday about her first day out in the field. She also sent a couple of pictures.  Here's the latest update:

"Our first day here we ate and met the mission president and his wife. Then we had to go do street contacting at ASU, one of the biggest party schools in the nation. It was really cool though. We talked to a few people and gave away 2 Books of Mormon. I also found out that Brother Boyd's nephew is in my mission. How crazy is that?! He's an assistant to the president so he drove us to ASU. They're a lot alike and it's kind of crazy.

The next day was transfers. The transfer meeting was hilarious. The elders reactions when their new companions were announced was so funny. Also, I found out that even though there are a lot of sisters in the MTC we're still way outnumbered in the field. We have about 50 sisters and 200 elders. It was a little overwhelming. We got our new companions and found out what mission we're assigned to since the mission is splitting 4 ways. I am now (well as of july 1st) in the Gilbert mission. The boundaries are super tiny-look it up online. But I'm excited. We'll be here when the new temple opens so I might get to help out with that.

My companion is Sister Kratzer, she's been out for 3 months. We're living in a cute little house on a member's property. We're in the Ocotillo zone and we're the first sisters in our zone in like 8 years. So we're whitewashing, which means that neither of us were in the area before and we don't know anything about the area. It's kind of hard because the area books aren't the greatest, but we're figuring it out. But everyone was so excited to have sisters in the area and the laurels are excited to be able to go out on splits with us. The elders in the zone were super shocked to find out sisters were coming to Ocotillo, when they announced it, the zone leaders faces were priceless. I have a pretty cool district, half of us are from the South. Sister Kratzer and my district leader are from North Carolina and there's another elder from Kentucky. And then me. It's kind of awesome.

We haven't really done a ton of teaching yet. We're still trying to figure out the area and what's going on. We're on bikes and don't even have a car. But we only cover 2 wards, and the area is really small-like 2 square miles at most. There are so many members here! We get fed every night by them. Everyone loves sister missionaries, so they take care of us well.

Mission life is crazy. It's nothing like what I expected, which is good and bad. I still miss all of you like crazy but I'm glad to be here where the Lord wants me to be. I don't have my address with me at the moment, but I'll send it to my sister and she'll post it in the next few days! Feel free to write me anytime, I love getting mail and having contact with the outside world. I love and miss you all and hope all is well!"

In another email (when she was sending photographs) she added that she had a "minor biking incident".  Apparently it has been a long time since she's been on a bike, so she was a little wobbly. She fell off the bike and through a bush into some rock. There's a nice photo of a giant purple bruise on her foot.

Don't forget to send her your love with letters!
